The Meridian on Sand Key Project

We received the following letter from Steve Coppins with JMC Design & Development:

I wanted to take a moment and thank you for your company's outstanding efforts in constructing the uniquely designed canopies for the Meridian on Sand Key Project. The size, scope of work and climatic conditions made this project extremely challenging and your team eagerly rose to the task.

This was the largest canopy project I have managed. It consisted of twelve (12) 10 x 10 pyramids constructed of 1" square aluminum for poolside, one (1) large 18' diameter round canopy and one (1) very large round 42' canopy, a 61' x 18' curved entrance canopy and three (3) 12' x 4' standard canopies around the guard shack, made of curved aluminum schedule 40 round pipe either 4" or 6" in diameter.

The windy beach location made for very difficult welding conditions. Achieving high-quality welds could only be accomplished by highly skilled and motivated individuals. Because of the large round aluminum pipe, the cutting and fitting demanded individuals with skill and experience. Your welders, Ken Abbott and Monti Lopez, overcame all obstacles in putting together a very high quality frame and continually exhibited pride in their craftsmanship. This, unfortunately, is a rare trait these days.

Your sewing department also faced many obstacles in cutting and fitting the fabric covers. The high wind conditions constantly created a difficult and sometimes impossible scenario. They still managed to create a beautiful, wrinkle-free finish by hand fitting and creating rafter bands to work with the design to eliminate wrinkles. They also did additional heat-sealing to make sure there were no leaks. The pie-shaped pieces, cuts made on radius corners, the curves and round pipes all added to the problems of fitting, sewing and heat-sealing the fabric. Your seamstress, Donna Abbott, and her staff, however, made sure everything was perfect, sometimes cutting, sewing and fitting fabric pieces fifteen feet (15') off the ground. Her skill and dedication to her craft was obvious in the wonderful job she did.

All in all, I feel only a handful of companies on the East Coast could have completed such a large and difficult project. To have done so with such a high quality end product was extraordinary. To say we were satisfied would be an understatement. Thank you very much for a job well done!

Sincerely,

Steve Coppins
